What To Do After You Get Into A Car Accident

Nobody can expect a car accident to happen, hence when you get into one; it can leave you shaken to the core. That is why it is important for you to know what to do in the event of an accident. Here is a list of a few steps you can take for safety, security, and monetary benefits.

Go To A Safe Area

If you have met an accident and fortunately you aren’t injured, you should try and move your car away from the scene of the accident or it may impede other vehicles. If your car is not in a state that it can be moved, go for the hazard lights to warn other cars off the lane of your car.

Check On Everyone Involved In The Accident

Stay calm, don’t argue, don’t apologize, and don’t accuse anyone or admit fault.  If you can do so safely, check on others involved in the accident. If there are signs of injury, minor or major, call an ambulance right away. If you are even slightly injured, you should do the same thing. Injuries often aren’t immediately apparent in auto accidents, so you may need to see your doctor or go to a hospital emergency room a day or so later.

Call The Police

After the passengers are secured and nobody is facing a threat to their life, call the police and share what happened.  If you don’t have an answer to any of the officer’s questions, including your injury, say you are uncertain instead of no. Remember that pain from an accident can come at a later time, and you don’t want your answer to be held against you in the insurance claim.

Compile Information About The Other Vehicle

While you wait for the officer, you should proceed with gathering necessary information from the scene. The vital information you’ll need will include:

  1. Name of the driver and passengers
  2. Insurance Information
  3. The license plate number of the vehicles
  4. Models of the vehicles
  5. Pictures of all vehicles, and the damage caused
